About Dr. R K Tandon
Currently, Chairman, Dept of Gastroenterology, Pushpawati Singhania Hospital & Research Institute, New Delhi; Prof. Rakesh Tandon joined AIIMS in 2003 as a lecturer in Medicine & retired in 2003 as Professor & Head of Gastroenterology.
He has been a Visiting Associate Professor of Gastroentetrology at Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA ( 1989-1990), Humboldt Fellow at the University Medical School of Essen, West Germany ( Dec 1981 - Dec 1982 ) and Europa Fellowship at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden in the department of Physiological Chemistry .
Through his persistent research endeavours, he earned an international reputation of being an outstanding researcher, teacher and clinician. In recognition of that he received numerous awards & orations, the most prominent of them being:
- Master of World Gastroenterology’ by WGO, London, 2009
- Dr BC Roy Award by MCI in 2000
- Dr SK Sama Oration from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, 2017
- Dr P N Chuttani Oration, ISG, Chennai, 2003
- Sarabhai Oration of API 2000-2001
- Shakuntala Amir Chand Award of ICMR in 1982
He is a fellow of American Gastroenterological Association, USA (2009), Indian College of Physicians (1993), National Academy of Medical Sciences (1992), Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (2003), National Academy Sciences, Allahabad (1993) & American Gastroenterological Association.
- President, Indian Society of Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition, India.
- President, Indian Society of Gastroenterology (1990-91)
- Council Member, Indian College of Physicians, Mumbai, India.
- He has been the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (2000 -2006) and is currently the Section Editor for Hepatology &Pancreatobiliary Research Publications of BioMed Central (BMC) - Gastroenterology.
- He has also been an Editorial Board Member of Scand J Gastroenterology, World J Gastroenterology , Pancreatology, Chinese J Digestive Diseases and J Assoc Phys India.
